S-Bahn Bio

S-Bahn was formed in the early 90's, when Richard Theiss returned to Vancouver after performing and studying in Toronto, where, amongst others, his credits included singing with the Canadian Opera Company. Richard met Michael Dunnill (guitar, mandolin, vocals), and James Bartz (drums, vocals) in Vancouver, playing with Mike until 2008. When Mike decided to leave the band, he was replaced by (Steady) Freddy Steale on guitar. James (the Rock) Bartz still plays with the S-Bahn.

Their music reflects the diversity of the city they live in, as they continue to entertain fans of various ages and ethnic backgrounds at community dances, and cultural events like Oktoberfest (German) and Malanka (Ukranian). Highlights for the S-Bahn include the "Fall Crawls" during which S-Bahn tours the Oktoberfest circuit - including the super popular Leavenworth Washington and Mt. Angel Oregon Oktoberfests.

Would the band like to live anywhere else? Not really. Vancouver, Canada is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and there one does not have to look far for musical inspiration.

Why the name "S-Bahn"? S-Bahn is the commuter train that connects cities in Germany with their suburbs. The S-Bahn connects people, all kinds of people. It brings people together. And It belongs to everyone. Thus the name.
